As the storm line moves through Alabama, ABC 33/40 Chief Meteorologist James Spann emphasized the risk of strong, potentially damaging winds. He stated, "With saturated ground and the potential for damaging winds, you might consider taking precautions for severe thunderstorm warnings as seriously as tornado warnings tonight due to the risk of falling trees."
The line of thunderstorms is expected to enter northwestern Alabama around 10 PM and move quickly across the state overnight. Spann highlighted that the main concern is strong, potentially damaging straight-line winds, with the possibility of a few isolated tornadoes, particularly in southwestern Alabama.
"Gradient winds ahead of the line could gust to 30-40 mph in some areas; a wind advisory is in effect," Spann said. "The line will move quickly, so most areas should receive an inch or less of rain, and major flooding issues are not expected."
