What Prince Harry and Meghan had to say from Nigeria
"Prince Harry and Meghan travel to Nigeria, where the Duchess hints at her heritage with a nod to her fellow Duchess students: 'I see myself in all of you.'
Their first trip to Nigeria could be described as a mini royal tour, but one that Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have not been on for several years.
The couple - now residents of California - received a warm reception in the vast African country on Friday. They were presented with a traditional Nigerian necklace made of wooden beads and then treated to a routine dance performance by students at the sprawling capital Abuja's Light Academy.
There, Harry addressed one of his biggest causes: mental health.
"If you take anything from today, remember that mental health affects every single one of us," he told the students. "The more we talk about it, the more we can eradicate stigma."
Their visit to the West African country carries extra significance for Meghan, who had revealed on her Archetypes podcast some time ago that a DNA test had revealed she was "43% Nigerian." Since then, both have referenced her Nigerian heritage, with Meghan expressing hopes of "deep digging" into her roots.
"My daughter Lily turned to me and said she can see herself in my eyes and said, 'Mom, I can see myself in you and you in me,'" she told students in Abuja on Friday.
"As I stand in this room today, I see myself in all of you," she added, drawing applause from the crowd.
Harry and Meghan are in Nigeria at the invitation of the country's armed forces, discussing future work with the Invictus Games Foundation. They assist wounded service members and veterans through the power of adaptive sports. A matching program exists in Nigeria, collaborating with Invictus.
Prince Harry's visit to Africa comes just days after he was in London - his old stomping grounds - for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, with discussions of a potential reunion with other members of his royal family in Britain.
But it wasn't meant to be. He didn't meet with his brother Prince William or his father, Prince Charles.
At one point, father and son were just two miles apart, attending separate events. According to a statement from the Duke of Sussex's office, a meeting didn't happen due to the "full program of the Maharaja." It added that Harry had hoped to see his father again soon.
Prince Charles is currently undergoing treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer but has resumed some public duties, saying this week that he needs to be "let out of his box."
Harry and Meghan conclude their Nigerian journey on Sunday, with a cultural excursion and charity polo match for wounded veterans."
