According to a former NFL player and current analyst, the matters involving Travis Hunter and his fiancée, Leanna, being in the public eye are a result of their choice to share their lives publicly.
Nate Burleson, who played 11 seasons in the NFL and is now an analyst for CBS, told TMZ that Hunter, the Colorado star, needs to stay silent about his personal life to protect himself and his fiancée from online commentators, who have targeted them in recent weeks.

“This is everyone else’s business because the couple put it out there,” Burleson told the outlet. “You can’t complain when people react. That’s social media. You can’t expect people to mind their business or keep their opinions to themselves when you’ve shared your life with everyone.”
Social media users have targeted Leanna after a series of incidents caught on short video clips posted online.
The most recent instance occurred during the Heisman ceremony when social media users criticized Leanna for her actions after Colorado football coach Deion Sanders was announced as the Heisman winner.

“When his name was called, I immediately thought about standing up — if you watch the video, his mom didn’t stand up, so I thought, ‘Oh, maybe I shouldn’t either. I’ll just sit here,’” she explained in a TikTok video last week.
“I saw Travis stand up, and then I thought it would be appropriate to stand up, congratulate him, and applaud him. But then, right in front of Coach Prime, there was a camera, and knowing how people are online, I thought, ‘I don’t want to be in that shot,’ so I stayed seated.”
Hunter also defended his fiancée during a live stream.
Burleson, who played as a receiver for the Vikings, Seahawks, and Lions, expressed empathy for the situation and understood Hunter’s desire to protect Leanna.
He told TMZ that people used to assume his wife, Atoya, was with him solely because he was heading to the NFL.
“She was with me before I started chasing the NFL. That might also be the case with Travis’ relationship. I don’t know,” Burleson said. “What I do know is that both of them deserve grace. They’re young! They’ll figure it out.”
